WHAT A GREAT YEAR THIS WAS!
When I look back and ponder all the things that occurred this year, I must say that it was definitely sweet and sour, however, I learned a lot.
For example, I learned that clear communication is not easy for everyone, our feelings are our perceptions about life events, however, our perceptions can be incorrect, therefore, our feelings are not always the truth, and living in unity with others does not mean that we have to agree on all points.
I also learned that when in conflict, it is best to wait to discuss the matter instead of reacting emotionally for the sake of the friendship.
Emotional intelligence is important to develop and can when two individuals learn how to manage their emotions, process with God’s Spirit to dial down, and then try to resolve a conflict with the intention to protect the future of the relationship.
This can be done by listening to each other’s perspective to gain more insight into their thinking which promotes empathy.
I look forward to practicing what I learned…to protect the future of one of my friendships.
I took some amazing classes this year, like, conflict management, psychopharmaceuticals, positive psychology, and happiness, etc.
The psychopharmaceutical class was emotionally intense because I learned so much about antidepressants, side effects, off-labeling, and how drug companies lie for the sake of making a profit.
I also realized that as a Professional Therapist (to be), I have a moral and ethical duty to educate my clients about the dangers of antidepressants, stimulants, and mood stabilizers. So many people want the “quick fix” but quick is not going to fix anything.
The side effects alone with most of the currently prescribed medications for mood stabilizing are concerning, to say the least. I personally believe (now) that these medications, if prescribed, should be the last resort.
ON TO A MORE LIGHT HEARTED TOPIC
I did have a wonderful Christmas with family and friends, had a bit of R&R, wine tasting, and beach time.
Here’s a fun video I put together to celebrate Christmas 2017, a Perfect end to a Great Year!
